‘Free Guy’ is the ‘Back to the Future’ of this generation, according to Ryan Reynolds

The CCXP 19 held in Sâo Paul this weekend left us a lot of trailers, but the one of Free Guy stood out among all of them for two main reasons: he had Ryan Reynolds as the protagonist, in the first place, and in the second he did not belong to No pre-existing franchise. The film directed by Shawn Levy focused on the NPC of a video game, played by Reynolds, that one day he discovered his condition and rebelled against it, becoming a new hero.

“It is very unusual these days to see a movie that is not based on anything. It has been a feast, and a triumph for us, ”Reynolds explained during the event. The actor, who just premiered on Netflix 6 in the shade yesterday (for which he was put under the orders of Michael Bay), is greatly excited about this project, to the point of revealing to Collider that, “of all the films I have In fact, Free Guy is my favorite, and that means a lot because I've also done Deadpol. ”

The interpreter goes further, and speaking of what we can expect from such a film, he has come to call it the "Return to the future of this generation." Beyond the senselessness of this comparison, Reynolds refers both to his originality and the way he combines adventures, humor and science fiction. The generational issue is still noteworthy, on the other hand, since according to those responsible said in São Paulo, Free Guy will be plagued by winks for the gamer public, from cameos of world celebrities to appearances of famous streamers.

'Free Guy': Ryan Reynolds and the rest of the cast talk about the new movie

The trailer for 'Free Guy' surprised the audience that attended the Comic-Con in New York, which began this Thursday and will last until Sunday. Unfortunately, the rest we still can't see the images. In addition to the trailer's revelation at the annual New York event, Ryan Reynolds released a supporting video and the first poster of the highly anticipated film. The premise for the film is simple: "an NPC (character who does not play) in a video game that achieves sensitivity." In addition to Reynolds, the panel included the film's director, Shawn Levy, and actors Lil Rel Howery, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Joe Keery, Jodie Comer and Taika Waititi entered via videoconference.

Levy had this to say: "On a very literal level, 'Free Guy' is about Guy, the cashier of a bank. In his work he is robbed an average of 17 times in one day. As he realizes that this is not very normal, he will proceed to discover why. Ryan and I have talked about Free Guy as a superhero origin story without the cape, stockings and intellectual property. If you were living in a video game and could dominate the system, your powers would be unlimited. " .

For his part, the actor compared 'Free Guy' with 'Welcome, Mister Chance' of 1979, with Peter Sellers and Shirley MacLaine, one of his favorite films. "I haven't been so completely immersed, engaged and focused on something since 'Deadpool,'" Reynolds said. The actor continued talking about how the film works so well with our current events in the world, where it seems that everyone is a background character. Levy added: "It is the journey of the innocents in a deeply cynical world."

Ryan Reynolds stars in Free Guy, a new video game comedy

Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), Shawn Levy (Stranger Things) and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok), what can go wrong? That is the letter of introduction of Free Guy, a new FOX film set in the world of video games. Or rather, set in a sandbox anyone that could be GTA.

In Free Guy, Ryan Reynolds plays the typical NPC that we find in our games. A secondary character who does the same thing every day and around which all kinds of crazy things happen in which he is not programmed to intervene. At least until Reynolds "opens his eyes", he realizes that he is living in a video game called Free City and decides to change both his life and the universe he is in, which is at risk of being canceled by its creators.

Directed by Shawn Levy, a recurring name in the credits of Stranger Things, this crazy comedy will arrive on July 3, 2020 and counts among its cast of actors with names of the caliber of Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), Joe Keey (Steve in Stranger Things ), Lil Rel Howery (The Carmichael Show) and Taika Waititi himself (director of Thor's latest films and the next Jojo Rabbit). Although it does not adapt any video game, the references are as many as in Rompe Ralph, with allusions to the kits, virtual reality, compasses in the interface, levels of experience and everything we are accustomed to deal with in title yes, title too.

The film sneaks like this in a 2020 in which video game films will enjoy a leading role, with the release of Sonic The Hedgehog (February 14) and Monster Hunter (September 4, 2020), as well as with the first trailers Tomb Raider 2 (2021) and who knows if Uncharted, Minecraft and Super Mario Bros, who are already preparing their new adaptations for 2022.
